Odessa, TX — With the recent announcement of First Odessa Christian Academy’s closure, many families are now seeking a school that values more than enrollment numbers – a school that puts students and families first. Nerd Academy, a growing private K–5 program in Odessa, is opening its doors to FOCA families who are looking for a strong academic foundation, a values-aligned culture, and a true educational partnership.

Founded by West Texas parents who saw the gaps in the traditional system, Nerd Academy offers small class sizes, personalized learning, and a curriculum rooted in literacy, real-world relevance, and family trust.

“We’re not a big institution chasing prestige,” said Abel Nunez, co-founder and former military instructor. “We’re a team of parents and educators who take this responsibility seriously. Every child here is known, supported, and prepared for the future – and we treat them like they’re our own.”

Nerd Academy follows TEKS standards as its academic foundation, but enhances learning through:

  • AI & Coding
  • PetroSTEAM (STEM tied to our region’s industry)
  • Social Emotional Learning
  • Passion Projects that tap into each child’s interests

Nerd Academy is a small school by design, growing strategically to maintain quality and care. For the 2025–2026 school year, the school is opening 35 new slots for grades K–5, with the option to open 15 additional slots for 6th grade if demand is there.

“We stay small on purpose,” said Raquel Nunez, Executive Director. “That’s how we keep quality high and ensure every student gets the attention they deserve.”

FOCA parents concerned about educational gaps, social influences, or a loss of structure will find a school that shares their priorities. Nerd Academy offers a safe, focused, and academically rich environment without politicized content – just a clear commitment to reading, writing, math, and the real world.
